Although it may seem obvious to some, many people – especially people who are new to different countries – do not know if car insurance is actually essential. There are many reasons why car insurance is required by law in many countries and whilst many people may think that it is a high price to pay, when you think about what could happen you realize it is actually worth it.

The first is fairly obvious in the fact that you need car insurance in order to protect yourself and your car in the event of an accident. Whilst you could argue that you are a careful driver and that car insurance would just be a waste of money to you, it is worth keeping in mind that many accidents do not always occur because of you. All it takes is for the other driver to make one mistake and your car could end up being affected. If you didn’t have car insurance or if the other driver didn’t have car insurance you would not be able to get your car fixed and how would that affect you?

So, that is why car insurance is not negotiable in most areas. If everybody could pick and choose whether they did have car insurance or not they probably would choose not to in order to save money. Then if somebody did run into you, there wouldn’t be one thing you could do about it. You should now be realizing why car insurance is so important but just in case you need further convincing, think about everybody else that the accident may affect.

Many times it is not just the drivers who get injured in an accident. It could be passengers within the car who are there with you or the other driver and it could also include pedestrians. Now, think if you were a pedestrian and you got caught up in a car accident and the car hits you. If the driver did not have insurance you would not be able to claim anything potentially even though you might be seriously injured. How would you feel if you knew they were driving around without any insurance, putting people at risk like yourself? Car insurance is absolutely essential and often people do not think about it.

So, if you have been wondering if you do actually need car insurance the answer is yes. However, there are some states in America where it is not a legal requirement but it is always best to have it anyway.
