Understand Everything Before You Get Car Insurance
Whilst it may seem obvious, it is vital that you do understand your potential insurance policy before you take it out. Despite the many warnings people receive, they still ignore the fact that you do have to read the small print. If you don’t, you could well end up in a mess, especially when it comes to making a claim if needed.
What You Have to Understand
When it comes time to get car insurance, many people do tend to go into the insurance company, sign the paperwork and then disappear without even thinking to ask any questions to the company about their policy. Now, as much as we’d like to believe that our insurance companies would not let us down, unfortunately many are only there for the money and most would not think twice about swindling us out of as much money as possible for as little cover as possible. So, rule number one is to know what you are getting.
Look through the policy and check what it covers. Some things you might need covering include:
Theft
Towing Away Costs
Accidental Damage
Parts
You may think that everything will be included in one simple plan, but often it isn’t and you need to ask the insurance company to add them on for you. Unfortunately that does often mean a higher insurance rate and if you want absolutely everything covered it could add up to quite a sum!
Another thing to consider is that if you do have to file a claim and you have not previously read through the insurance policy, you will not be able to do anything if something is not covered. At the end of the day if you sign the paperwork it is basically saying that you have read and that you understand the terms and conditions. Now obviously if you do not look at those conditions beforehand you are not going to know or understand them but because you signed the paper, you cannot change anything later on.
So, overall always make sure that you understand what you are paying for. It is always better to read the small print and waste an hour or two of your time getting things right than it is just simply hoping for the best and ending up wasting a lot of money on repairs that your insurance didn’t cover. It might be time consuming but unfortunately it does have to be done!
