When it comes to finding car insurance rates, the best place to look is generally either on the Internet or in the local phone book. Of course you could always spend time driving around your local area too, but that usually takes up quite a lot of time that most people do not have. So which method is easier then for finding your car insurance rates?

Comparing the Methods

Car insurance rates are easily found in your local phone book; however, the easiest way to find car insurance rates is by going online.

There are websites which compare hundreds of car insurance companies for you, all at the click of a button. It really couldn't be simpler and it takes around two minutes to do. Looking through the phone book on the other hand can be quite a chore. Whilst the companies are all listed under the same area, you still have to waste time ringing them all up and getting a quote. Getting a quote over the phone could take around ten minutes and it isn't free, so you would also be wasting a lot of money too!

So are there any downsides to looking online? Well, it does still take a little time and it could take a while to find some in your local area. Sometimes you do not realize that you are looking at a website which does not deal with your area and it is only when you type your postcode in that it tells you whether or not it deals in your area. So, you could potentially waste a lot of time typing in your postcode on various different sites, only to find that the insurance company tells you it does not do business with people in that area.

There is also the chance that the websites have not been updated in a while and that would leave you with an inaccurate quote. At least when you ring a company up direct you know that the quote the person gives you is correct. Also, it is sometimes good to actually chat to people over the phone rather than having an automated service over the Internet. At least if you ring up you can ask any questions you want answered. Online you may have to e-mail a representative who could take a while to get back to you. Car insurance rates can be confusing and so it can be useful actually talking to somebody who can answer your questions for you.

Overall there are advantages and disadvantages to both looking online and ringing up individual companies. They are however the best ways to look for car insurance rates and you should find it pretty easy to find one for you, it just might take a little while!
